Cry God for Harry, England & St George: St George’s Day in London

St George: he slew a dragon; he’s England’s patron saint; and his day falls on 23rd April each year. Those are the fundamentals most are familiar with. Far fewer know, however, that the saint was a Byzantine soldier-martyr (dying in AD 303), whose principal shrine lies in Lod, Israel, and who also happens to be the patron saint of Ethiopia, Georgia and Portugal, too! Whatever the history, however, his date is perfectly placed in the British calendar. Late April is when London really kicks into gear with warmer weather, marathons, Easter eggs and bank-holidays. Make the most of both Britain’s religious heritage by attending these St George’s Day events in London, which are all a short drive away from our fantastic collection of London hotels.
